Mom loved Sundays and fittingly, she left this world on Sunday, October 1, 2017.
Virginia G. Hoskins died peacefully at home in Hot Springs Village, AR at the age
of 92 after a long journey with dementia. Told by a doctor at a young age she
might not live past age 16 due to the effects of scarlet fever, she was always so
grateful to have outlived that prediction!
Her early life was spent in southern Louisiana. In 1950 she and two of her sisters
joined the USAF as some of the first WAF (Women in Air Force). She traveled
extensively in Europe and had many exciting adventures gaining exclusive ‘cosmic
top-secret clearance’. She told tales of intrigue and close-calls as courier in postwar
Germany and also while working the Top-Secret vault at the US Pentagon
building. In 92 years she never divulged any secrets. In fact, we are fairly certain
she never told even a little white lie in her lifetime, for that would be dishonest.
Her interests included visiting with people from all walks of life, genealogy, DAR,
angels, reading, painting, writing, photography, traveling the world, gardening and
music. She was an adventurer! Widowed at an early age, with three very young
daughters to support, she always provided and remained an eternal optimist. She
retired from civil service KAFB Hurricane Hunter division. Virginia is survived by
daughters Janine Hoskins, Alicia Hoskins and Brenda MacKay (David), four grandchildren,
two great-grandchildren and three siblings.
Per her request, no public service is planned. In lieu of flowers, please consider
donating to a veterans support organization. With her characteristically wry humor,
when asked what she wanted for her epitaph she said, just put ‘see you later
alligator’.
She had a lifelong faith in God and expressed a strong curiosity about the
hereafter. So…Mom, now you know.
Arrangements have been entrusted to CedarVale – The Hot Springs Village Funeral Home
