Paul “Pap” Poulsen, 72, of Hot Springs Village passed away on April 17, 2015. He was born May 29, 1942 in Greeley, Colorado to Ray and Tillie Poulsen.
Paul Poulsen, known to so many as “Pap”, spent 22 years, from September 1961 until October 1983, in the US Navy Submarine Service and retired as a Master Chief. His second career, which lasted a little over 18 years, was with Pacific Gas & Electric in California’s Diablo Canyon, as a Maintenance Planner.
After his Naval service, his home was Oceano, California, and for a number of years, he held high office in the Moose Lodge in that area. Paul was married three times and lost all three to ill health, caring for each of them as they lost their battle to survive.
In 2006 he married wife number three, Mary Sowers, and they relocated from California to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, in 2007. In the four years until Mary’s passing, the Poulsen’s enjoyed traveling to many parts of the world, but this time on the surface of the ocean rather than under it.
There aren’t many countries that they didn’t visit, and when not on board a ship somewhere in the world, they embraced the social life here in the Village having struck up a number of lasting friendships.
Paul was a Believer and was a staunch member of Village Bible Church. He served on a number of ministries in the Church until his health began to decline about a year ago.
He breathed his last on Friday April 17 sometime before midnight and he is survived by his step children Jenna, Judie, Jim, Michelle and Julie, and many grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be at 1:30p.m. on Thursday, April 23rd at Village Bible Church in Hot Springs Village, AR.
