Marvin Ross Langston Jr., 82, of Hot Springs Village passed away on January 20, 2014 peacefully surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was born September 26, 1931 to Marvin and Ethyle Langston in Greenville, MS. He grew up in Greenville and after graduation from Greenville High School, he attended the University of Tennessee majoring in Business. He worked for Plough in Memphis, TN before joining Phillips Petroleum Company. Although they were both from Greenville, it was in Memphis where he met and married his wife, Peggy. They recently had celebrated 50 years of marriage.

After transferring with Phillips to Bartlesville, OK, he and his wife spent the next 21 years there until he retired after 30 years of service. Upon retirement, they moved to Hot Springs Village, AR where he lived until his death. He was a member of Balboa Baptist Church and enjoyed golf and bowling, but mostly enjoyed the friends he made while trying to learn the sports.

Marvin was a founding member and past president of the Bartlesville Genealogy Society and was also a past president of the HSV Genealogy Society. He was presented Life Memberships in both of those organizations. He loved family history and teaching Beginner Classes in Genealogy which he did for several years in Bartlesville and Hot Springs Village. Always working on family genealogy, he published his first book, “Langstons and their kin” in 1979. Unfortunately, he was not able to finish his next book due to illness.

Marvin was a 50+ year member of the Free and Accepted Masons of Tennessee, The Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, SJ, USA and was also a member of Shriners International.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy, and daughter, Diane Nelson, Son-in-law Scott and grandsons, Ross, Mark and Alec. He loved his family and was so proud of his daughter and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.

The family would like to thank Arkansas Hospice for their excellent care and support. Memorials can be made to Arkansas Hospice, 629 Malvern Ave., Hot Springs, AR 71901.

A private memorial service was held and cremation arrangements are entrusted to CedarVale Funeral Home.
